Passiona is the taste of our childhood – up there with Creaming Soda, party pies and Dunkaroos.

But despite our love for the iconic passion fruit fizzy drink, it turns out we’ve been pronouncing its name wrong our whole life.

“PASH – EE – OWE – NAH”, right? Wrong.

Just hear to ruin your childhood, don’t mind us.

It’s not our fault we’ve been pronouncing Passiona wrong – apparently, the drink’s name has been up for debate since it was first manufactured. Morgan Cottee, the great-grandson of Passiona creator Spencer Cottee confirmed to news.com.au that the proper way to pronounce Passiona is – prepare yourselves – “PASH – OWE – NAH.”

According to the book Cottee’s: A Family Favourite, Celebrating 75 Years, the family had “combined wits to come up with a catchy name” for the drink. But much to the family’s frustration”, it instead became commonly known as “pash-ee-owe-nah”.

Honestly, the second version makes more sense anyway? It sounds like passionfruit which is what the soft drink tastes like… how did the Cotte’s family ever think pash – owe – nah” made sense?

We don’t care what the history books say, we’ve been saying Passiona right this whole time. Thanks for coming to our Ted Talk xoxo.
