Drivers caught over the 0.05 blood alcohol limit will immediately lose their license for a minimum of three months, thanks to tougher new laws on Victorian roads that are in effect from today.
Drivers that fail a breathalyzer test with a reading of 0.05-0.07 blood alcohol will lose their license no matter how clean their driving record.
Not only will they lose their license, but they’ll be required to fit an ‘interlock’ device for six months after their back on the road, as well as complete a ‘behavioural program’ before their full driving privileges are reinstated.
Drivers that fail a drug test, even for the first time, will lose their license for six months, and those who have tested positive before will be off the road for 12 months.
VIC Minister for Roads and Road Safety told Nova 100:
“… we need to convince man of these people who thinks it’s alright to be a ‘little bit’ under the influence of either drugs or alcohol that it’s not acceptable and the likelihood of being involved in a serious [accident] exponentially increases.”
Not from Victoria? Don’t think this doesn’t apply to you! Victoria is keeping their roads safer than ever from drug and alcohol impaired driving.
