We love ourselves a pair of Converse – they’re a wardrobe staple, go with almost anything and make us instantly 10x cooler when we put them on.

But the brand that we thought could do no wrong has done some serious wrong. How naive we were!

Converse has released a new style of their famous Chuck Taylor which, in theory, sounds exciting but, in practice, is kind of horrifying. The new shoes have been designed to look dirty before they’ve been worn.

Basically: ????

The most baffling part is they’re more expensive than the classic connies, coming in at about $125 instead of the standard $80-$120 (depending on style).

This is Converse’s Chuck Taylor All Star Basic Wash sneakers:

The shoes have been labelled as the ‘absolute worst’ by Converse lovers online.

Posting on Twitter, one person wrote: “Converse is selling intentionally dirty trainers for £70. I have a pair of dirty Converse which is used primarily just for gardening. They even have a hole in the sole. Yours for £70.”

“I’ve also got an old pair, they also smell – I wonder if I could get an extra £10 for added authenticity,” another said.

One person wrote: “Having a pair of dirty Converse is the absolute worst. Baffled as to why anyone would buy them like that.”

Somehow, Converse has managed to justify the new dirty style cons.

Explaining the decision to revamp the style, the brand wrote: “Skip the break-in period. A dirty wash treatment gives these classic Chucks a vintage look, straight out of the box.”

Vintage or just a bit rank? You decide.
