So far, 2020 has felt like one disaster after the next. Bushfires, the rumoured start to World War III, passenger planes being shot down… It’s a lot to take and pretty heavy on the heart and soul.
It’s easy to get caught up in the misery of it all – and totally understandable, might we add. But we present you with something that may just make the grief a little easier to handle.
Aussie actor and Neighbours star, Ben Lawson, has penned moving poem about the Aussie bushfires which he has recited to roaring acclaim on Instagram.
The poem is sad yes – it talks a lot about the devastation the fires have brought – but there’s a spirit within which is undoubtedly inspirational
In the six-minute video, Ben pretty perfectly sums up what so many of us are feeling:
“[This is about] what I saw when I opened up the morning news. My heart stopped for a second and my throat became too tight, her name was in the headlines, she didn’t look alright,” he recites.
“She looked unrecognisable, I’d never seen those skies. That’s not the place I grew up in, that’s not what I remember. Bushfires never started up so early as September.”
But the poem is also uplifting – talking about Aussie pride and citing stories of how people have banded together to help those that have lost everything.
