Break out the stretchy pants folks.
Guzman y Gomez is helping Aussies celebrate Cinco de Mayo with $5 burritos, $5 bowls and $5 coronas nationally on Saturday May 5.
Which, THANK YOU you beautiful humans you.
Australians have reportedly gone crazy for Cinco de Mayo in the last few years. In fact, Google Trends data shows that searches related to the holiday have grown over the last two years, and 2018 is expected to be bigger than ever.
How’s this:
GYG are expecting to roll (nationally) more than five burritos every second to keep up.
That’s 7.2 tonnes of avo in case you’d like to start working on your Millenial housing jokes now.
For those not on the up-and-up, Cinco de Mayo is a cultural phenomenon primarily celebrated in the US. It’s a time to celebrate Mexican culture and, for some, an opportunity to drink a lot of margaritas and cerveza.
In its most accurate form however, the holiday celebrates a failed French invasion after a fledgling Mexican state defaulted on debt payments to European governments.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Is it a bit weird to celebrate a failed invasion from 1861? Yes.
But there’s burritos so it’s all G.
