The team at Tanqueray Terrace at Customs House understand gin and its subtle flavours. With Tanqueray gin at its base, the cocktail menu respects its ingredients and carefully matches flavours with high-quality produce.
To celebrate gin and its renaissance, we asked the team at Tanqueray Terrace to recommend three gin-based cocktails… and oh my, did they deliver. These are the three hottest gin-based cocktails of the moment. Is it the weekend yet?
Negroni
Timeless and dependable, a Negroni is made up of gin, sweet vermouth and Campari in equal measure. It’s strong in ABV and reputation and is instantly recognisable for its piecing rouge colour and bitter notes. Each ingredient is lovingly poured upon a large ice cube, stirred and topped off with an orange peel.
Martini
Another stylish classic. A Martini is built from gin and vermouth, garnished with an olive or a lemon twist. It was catapulted into relevancy by James Bond, who preferred his shaken, not stirred.
There are multiple ways to serve a Martini. A Dry Martini is made with white vermouth and was most popular during the roaring 1920s. A Dirty Martini contains a splash of Olive brine and is garnished with an olive.
Tom Collins
The sweetest and arguably most refreshing cocktail on the list. The Tom Collins contains gin, lemon juice, sugar and soda water and is typically served over ice in a tall glass.
It took its namesake from a hoax that was doing the rounds of New York in 1874. As the story goes, Tom Collins was a loud and obnoxious man who would sit in taverns and badmouth anyone he’d met. Word quickly spread and those who had encountered his wrath would visit the tavern in search of him. When they arrived, Tom Collins was nowhere to be found.
Tom Collins didn’t exist. Instead, they were handed a Tom Collins cocktail.
A couple of years later, every bar in town was serving a Tom Collins – all thanks to this fictional Tom and his mean mouth.
All three cocktails are available for purchase at Tanqueray Terrace, a new botanical pop up at Customs House, Brisbane. Visit their website for more info.
