If there’s one thing from our childhood that brings us equal parts excitement and fear, it’s UNO.
Draw 2, Draw 4, SUFFAH – yes, this is a joke for ’90s kids only… no regrets.
Picture it, you’d sit down with your mates, perhaps family, for a friendly game of cards only for someone to get ganged-up on, have far too many cards to make a comeback and whine to mum.
And if childhood bravado weren’t enough to make you drop Draw cards – against the rules btw – with abandon, there’s now a drinking game version.
TL;DR uno revenge just got a whole lot looser.

There are a few different versions out there but most concentrate on shots as their currency of choice.
As far as drinking games go, we personally think four or five shots in the span of a single game is a biiiiiit much and perhaps a house party or rousing game of cards should last longer than an hour so… maybe do sips?
These rules from Drinking Game Zone also advocate “gulps” of drinks like beer.
Rule 1:
If you cannot play a card from your hand, pick up a card. If you can play that card you’re safe, if not drink.
Rule 2:
If you are skipped or reversed on drink.
Rule 3:
When a standard wild card is played it’s a social drink. Everyone drinks including the player who deals the card. If a +4 wild is played everyone drinks one including the dealer and if the following player cannot play a card they drink five (one social drink and four for the +4).
^^^ Rule three is a a very good example of why you should always read rules before embarking on a drinking game adventure.
Rule 4:
Same as regular Uno +2 & +4 cards stack but only +2 with +2 cards and +4 with +4 cards. These are also drinks.
Editors’s Note: You cannot stack Draw Twos and Draw Fours, that’s illegal game play, you hack.
Rule 5:
If a player puts down their second last card and does not say Uno then everyone playing has a timeframe to call them out on it. This time frame is the time between them letting go of the card and the next player playing or picking up a card. The player also has this time frame to call Uno if they remember. Once the next player has actioned their turn, the ‘should-of-uno’d-but-didn’t player is safe.
If you are called out on not saying Uno you must finish the rest of your drink and pick up eight cards.
Optional Rule 1: Unlike regular Uno rules, you can opt to Reverse a +2 or +4 provided you have the colour reverse it’s changed to. You cannot skip +2 or +4 cards.
Optional Rule 2: Once someone wins everyone counts their cards. Each card = 1 Drink and all +2 and +4 cards accumulate as well.
There are packs online at places like Etsy however, you can totally get away with just using a regular deck.
Either way, happy playing.
